Reigning star Kajal Agarwal, who is ruling the roost with big hits like ‘Khaidi No 150’ and ‘Nene Raju Nene Mantri’ is all set to do a mythological role of Soorpanaka, sister of Ravana, in a big budget socio-fantasy film to be directed by Bhargav, a national award winning animation filmmaker. “It is true that Kajal liked the multi-layered role after going through the sketches of her look, story board and other details designed by the director and his team.

But she hasn’t signed on the dotted line yet,” says a source close to the actress. However, according to Valmiki, she met the exiled Lord Rama, during one such visit to the forest of Panchavati, and was instantly smitten by his youthful good looks. However, Rama spurned her advances, telling her that he was faithful to his wife Sita and thus would never take another woman as his wife. Dejected, Soorpanaka then approached his younger brother, Lakshmana who reacted in a similar manner and said she was not what he desired in a wife. Eventually, seeing that the brothers were making fun of her, the humiliated and envious Soorpanaka attacked Sita but was thwarted by Lakshmana, who cut off her nose and sent her back to Lanka.

A source close to director says, “Soorpanaka was a valiant princess and has a story of her own. Only an actress of the stature of Kajal can carry this larger-than-life role with consummate ease,” he concludes. Already, Kajal has begun shooting for her maiden female-centric movie with the Tamil remake of ‘Queen’ after doing 50-odd films in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi. She could consider this socio-fantasy film since she tasted success in the genre earlier with ‘Magadheera’. No doubt, Kajal seems to be in a mood to explore varied roles these days. Good going indeed!
