After taking the first step in the new world of expression with his single Echoes, singer-actor-producer Farhan Akhtar is out with the second song ‘Why Couldn’t It Be Me’ about the loss of innocence and childhood in adults war.

Farhan Akhtar dropped the new single on his Twitter profile. He captioned it, “#WhyCouldntItBeMe #Echoes #newsingle”

The singer-actor Farhan also wrote a note about the song, which read, “On 16 December 2014 Taliban Gunmen stormed the army school in the northern city of Peshawar. More than 150 people were killed, 132 of them children. Most of them were the age 12-16. After the Peshawar attack, I read an article about a mother whose younger son hadn’t gone to school that day because he’d pretended to be sick. But his older siblings went to school and had been killed in the massacre. 'Why Couldn’t It Be Me' is a song about the loss of innocence and childhood in an adults war.

The song is a powerful and emotive journey into the pain of grief and guilt. Such a strange dilemma for a young boy – ‘that could have been me in place of my brother.’ This very thought got Farhan writing and ‘Why Couldn’t It Be Me’ emerged from the perspective of that younger brother.

Apart from the singing, Farhan Akhtar is currently busy with ‘The Sky Is Pink’ which is a biographical drama film directed by Shonali Bose and co-produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, Ronnie Screwvala and Chopra under the banner of RSVP Movies, Roy Kapur Films, and Purple Pebble Pictures. It also stars Zaira Wasim and Priyanka Chopra and is based on motivational speaker Aisha Chaudhary who was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis.
