The first part of the film, NTR: Kathanayakudu had released amidst huge expectations but failed to impress the audience. Thus, it could collect only about Rs. 18 crores at the box office and incurred a loss of about Rs. 60 crores to the buyers. Thus, it became one of the huge disasters in the history of Tollywood.
The failure of Kathanayakudu had decreased the expectations of the latter part, NTR: Mahanayakudu. This, the film release amidst no expectations. Even this film was bashed by both critics and audience and managed to collect only Rs. 4.7 crores in its total run. Thus, it became a major disaster than its former. Currently, Balayya wants to just forget this failure and focus on upcoming elections and his next film with Boyapati.
