Deaf & dumb tribal girl gang-raped

Nellore: In a ghastly incident, two persons allegedly gang-raped a deaf and dumb Girijan woman aged 26 in Mallikarjuna Puram Netaji Colony in Thotapalligudur mandal in the district on Thursday night. They forcibly took her to a secluded building nearby her house and committed the offence.

Unable to resist them and speak out about the incident, she was found bleeding and struggling by local residents who rushed her to a hospital. Doctors are said to have initially viewed the injuries as a result of period bleeding, but later altered it a case of rape.

The incident occurred when the victim’s sick father, Nagaiah, was sleeping on a cot outside their dwelling. The offenders knocked on the door. Even as she gestured, asking them the purpose, they allegedly gagged her and took her away into a nearby building and resorted to brutal sexual assault.

After the duo left, the woman came home bleeding and moaning and became unconscious.

Nagaiah, who could not realise his younger daughter’s sad plight and agony, rushed to her elder sister Vanamma, informing about her. Vanamma, who was tending to her father, took the victim to the Nellore Jubilee Hospital. Doctors there confirmed the gang-rape. A wailing Vanamma informed the colony residents and lodged a complaint with Thotapalligudur police. K Sambasiva Raju, SI, took up investigation. The alleged rapists are suspected to be known to the woman. This angle is being looked into, Raju told The Hans India.
