Vibgyor school rape case: Key points

Following the gangrape of a school kid by teachers of Vibgyor school in Bangalore, there’s widespread outrage and massive protests in Bangalore over the incident. Updates on the rape incident along with instructions to parents are being circulated on social networking pages and whats app.

Let’s take a look at the key points

1. The incident took place on July 2 where a child of 1st grade was sexually assaulted by two school teachers.

2. Two SPA coaches of school are involved in the incident i.e. Gymnastic Teacher and Western Dance Teacher

3. The incident took place in the main block of the school between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm in a dark room

4. The School is now trying to cover up the entire incident and not ready to take any responsibility. The school is claiming that the incident happened outside the school, but the police has confirmed it happened in Main Block 5 of the school premises. Possibility of more people being involved cannot be ruled out by the police as the Aaya (maid) was the one to take the child to the dark room and thereafter to the washroom for cleaning on the day of incident

5. The SPA teachers assaulted the child on the pretext of punishing her and threatened her of dire consequences after the incident

6. Both the teachers are in police custody, but not arrested yet

7. The class teacher, Primary coordinator, SPA coordinator and other teachers are being questioned by the police. All SPA activities are suspended by the school sine die till the investigation is over. This is not the 1st incident as many parents reported multiple cases of molestation and child abuse within Vibgyor premises in last few years. In fact, last week a girl student of Class VI was molested by swimming teacher in school. Besides, there were also multiple complaints against the gymnastic teacher over taking pictures of the girl child and molestation. Parents allege that had the school taken action against Gymnastic teacher on time, this horrific incident could have been avoided. All parents were aghast and shocked by the attitude of school authorities. The principal was hiding behind and on top of it, the school authorities named the child on the public domain which is a serious crime. Parents allege that most teachers in VIBGYOR HIGH aren’t qualified or trained enough to be teachers

8. A protest march is underway at Marathahalli in Bangalore against the gangrape of the 6-year-old child in Vibgyor High School
