Drunkard arrested for matricide

Hyderabad: Two persons were arrested on Monday on the charge of murdering a woman under Sanathnagar police limits. Though the murder was committed on Saturday, it came to light on Monday. According to police, Lakshmi, 65, a resident of Khanamet in Madhapur, area was killed allegedly by her younger son Shiva with the help of his friend, Naresh, 21, for money. The 22-year-old Shiva, a habitual drunkard, used to often nag his mother for money to buy alcohol and harass her, the police said.

Shiva, who came to know that Lakshmi had Rs 60,000, accompanied her to the market on Saturday to buy an almirah. On his way to the market, Naresh, joined them. Taking advantage of the long, lonely stretch, the duo bludgeoned her head with a boulder and later dumped the body near the railway tracks in Borabanda area and fled with the cash, the police said. Locals, who saw the body on Monday, alerted the police. The police detained Shiva for questioning and he purportedly confessed to having committed the murder.

Man thrashed for denying money for booze, dies

Hyderabad: A 27-year-old man, who was attacked allegedly by some persons at Chandrayangutta area on Friday, died on Sunday. According to police, Syed Pasha, a small trader in Vattepally area, had gone to Lal Darwaza on Sunday to meet his friend Raju where some unidentified persons demanded money for booze. When their demand was not met, Pasha was beaten black and blue. He came back to his house where he suddenly fell unconscious. He was admitted to hospital by his family members where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. Police registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC and took up further investigation.

Realtor kidnapped

Hyderabad: A real estate businessman was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified persons in a car under KPHB police limits on Monday afternoon. Ramireddy left his house minutes after receiving a call from his friend. The duo also met in a hotel. A few minutes later, unknown persons came in a car and forcibly took away Ramireddy. Based on a complaint lodged by his wife, a kidnap case was registered.

Cops crack auto-rickshaw driver’s murder case

Hyderabad: The LB Nagar Zone police cracked a murder case on Monday after groping in the dark for over a month. A 35-year-old T Jangaiah, an auto-driver of Nalgonda district, was murdered by three others persons. It was almost a month since the murder took place, when the Meerpet police registered a murder case on July 1 and started investigation.

The police stumbled on the alleged culprits during the investigation into the murder of a 19-year-old youth Kovelakonda Abhimanyu under Ibrahimpatnam police limits. The suspects in the murder of the youth, when interrogated, confessed to have murdered the auto-rickshaw driver too, the police said. The suspects were identified as Rakesh Kumar, G Raghavachary, M Laxman Naik, Shivananda, V Saiteja and K Kittu. The ring worn by Jangaiah was recovered from the possession of the accused and later it was identified by the wife of the deceased, police explained.
