Hyderabad: The body of a woman was exhumed on Tuesday after her family members alleged that she was murdered by her husband, police said.

The body of Tara, 40, of Trimulgherry, who was buried on October 5, was dug up following a complaint by her family members alleging that she had been murdered by her husband, Narsingh Rao, a painter.

“On October 4, Rao informed his children that their mother had committed suicide by hanging herself. After she had been buried, suspicions were aroused when it was found that Rao had told some people that his wife died in an accident,” Trimulgherry inspector P Ravi Kiran said. With contradiction in explanation of his wife's death, a complaint was lodged and permission sought for exhuming the woman’s body which was done on Tuesday, Ravi Kiran added.

“Police booked a case of suspicious death under Section 174 of the CrPC. We are awaiting the post-mortem report and would take further action after getting the same,” the police officer said.

Police suspect that Rao might have strangled Tara, but Ravi Kiran said that it cannot be confirmed unless the post-mortem report was out. However, There were allegations that Rao had an illicit affair with another woman and that could be the motive behind the murder, police said, but added that such claims need to be investigated.
