Hyderabad: A Circle Inspector attached to Central Crime Station was suspended on Tuesday for forcing a “rape accused” and his friend to transfer their property in the name of his (CI) associate, seven years ago. The City Police Commissioner, M Mahender Reddy, passed the suspension orders against Vijay Singh, a 1989 batch officer.

Singh was dealing with a case of alleged rape against V Ravindra, a retired joint commissioner of commercial taxes department. The investigation officer, without conducting any proper investigation into the allegations, arrested Ravindra and illegally detained him. The police officer also tortured Ravindra for motivated reasons and extorted huge sum of money from the tax officer.

The inspector allegedly forced Ravindra and his friend to register and transfer a property belonging to them in the name of his acquaintance. The inspector tried to gain more wealth by subjecting Ravindra to duress and threat. He was also charged with illegal detainment of the family members of Ravindra. He, however, let them free later.

Following an inquiry, the City Police Commissioner found inspector guilty of all charges. Subsequently, he took disciplinary action against the inspector. Vijay Singh was suspended earlier too for his alleged role in a murder case.
