Nizamabad: Nizamabad police on Monday arrested a person for stealing nearly Rs 24 lakh from his father-in-law’s house in the city. According to Nizamabad Deputy Superintendent of Police Anand Kumar, the accused Venkat stole the money when his mother-in-law Devakat Choutrabai was not at her home in Chandrasekhar Colony and hid the amount on the premises. His father-in-law is bedridden and is said to be in no position to monitor others’ movement in the house.

Choutrabai kept Rs 25 lakh which she got after selling her property in Patura town in Maharashtra. Venkat managed to steal the amount and told his in-laws that the money was stolen by some thieves. Anand Kumar said Choutrabai used around Rs 1 lakh and the rest of the money was kept at home in the custody of Venkat. However, Venkat removed the money and made his in-laws believe that it was stolen.

Choutrabai lodged a complaint with the Nizamabad Three Town police on March 3, following which the police began investigations. The police on Monday arrested Venkat.
