Hyderabad: The Task Force (South) Police in a joint operation with the crime staff of Santhoshnagar claimed to have busted an interstate chain snatching gang with the arrest of three persons on Monday. Police recovered the stolen property weighing a little over 150 grams of gold and two motorcycles, all worth Rs 6 lakh from the possession of the arrested.


The accused were identified as Syed Afroz alias Afroz, 24, of Sanathnagar and Syed Rafi Ahmeduddin, 22, of Khilwath and Md Pasha alias Sameer, 24, of KPHB. Acting on a tip-off, a crime team of Santoshnagar and Task Force sleuths apprehended the accused on Sunday around 6.30 pm during routine vehicle checking near Rakshapuram ‘T’ Junction in Santoshnagar area.


The modus operandi of the gang was to select isolated stretches and commit the offences by targeting lonely women and then speed away in a vehicle after snatching gold chains. ACP (Santoshnagar), V Srinivasulu, said. He added that the accused were involved in more than 20 housebreaking and about 25 vehicle lifting cases. They were arrested by the police of Bidar, Pune, Mahabubnagar, Hyderabad and Cyberabad in the past for similar offences, the ACP said.
