Hyderabad: In yet another shocking case of sexual assault in the city, a 22-year-old B Tech student was allegedly abducted and raped by her friend after inviting her to a party. Though the incident took place on July 5 at Kusumanagar in Vanasthalipuram area, it came to light on July 15, the police said on Thursday.

“On July 5, three friends – Nihaal, Phani and Srikanth - invited the girl for a weekend party. They knew the girl well and taking advantage of their friendship, they invited her to the party. Nihaal, 22, also a student, allegedly forcibly made her consume some drink that was laced with sedative.

After consuming the drink, the girl became unconscious and Nihaal raped her,” ACP (Vanasthalipuram) B Bhaskar said adding that when the victim came back to her senses, she realised that she had been raped. While the victim was not able to tell the police where exactly the building was located, she said that the accused took her to a building in Kusumanagar area and made her consume drink before raping her.

The official said that the accused had been picked up on Thursday based on a complaint by the father of the girl on July 15. Special teams which had been formed to nab Nihaal detained him on Thursday for questioning. Police are also probing whether the woman was abducted by the suspect before being taken to the party and also are questioning the other suspects for their versions.

Quoting from the complaint, the ACP said the accused had called the victim to his friend’s place on July 5 (Sunday) on the pretext of celebrating weekend party. “A rape case under SC/ST Act has been registered against Nihaal,” the ACP added.
