Gang of 4 selling Fortwin injections to students held

Hyderabad: Santhoshnagar police arrested a four-member gang Thursday on charges of using and selling Fortwin injections, an anesthetic drug, which is used during surgeries by qualified doctors.A police team led by Santoshnagar ACP Srinivasulu and inspector K Praveen Kumar nabbed the gang near MB huts in Santoshnagar area. The accused Sameer Khan (22), Md Shakeel (27), Syed Gulam Mohammed (30) and Shaik Khader (35), residents of old city of Hyderabad were found storing the Fortwin injections at an abandoned place on Thursday morning.
ACP Srinivasulu said the accused were illegally buying the injection ampoules from medical stores located in Talabkatta and Hafeez Baba Nagar, and selling them to youngsters and mostly students. The gang confessed to have lured several engineering and medical students and earned money, he said.
“Their target is mostly students in the age group of 18-25 years. They do not sell the ampoules. They collect money and inject the drug through nerves on forearm. From the past three years, the accused have been using the same injections,” said ACP Srinivasulu.
He said that the drug is usually sold only on producing doctor prescription. But the gang managed to get them using fake prescriptions. The drug was bought for Rs 200 and sold for Rs 1,000 to the customers.
“Many medical stores are identified in city, selling huge quantity of drugs to the addicts for higher prices, even without prescription. It is unfortunate that several persons are getting addicted to the drug and the number of cases is on the rise in Hyderabad, especially in old city area,” the ACP said. We are probing the case to curb the illegal activity and booked cases against the accused under NDPS Act, he added.
