Hyderabad: As many as 27 persons including fair price shop dealers were arrested and huge quantity of PDS commodities were seized from the accused persons when they attempted to divert the commodities.

Acting on a tip-off, teams of central zone Task Force raided the private storages at Katedan, Amberpet and Thipparthy in Nalgonda district and intercepted some vehicles at Mettuguda and arrested the accused persons.

Speaking at a press meet on Wednesday, Task Force DCP B Limba Reddy said that the police have arrested 27 persons including Bussa Srinivas (42) of Uppal, Varun Kumar Agarwal (31) of Langar Houz, Paluwai Karunakar (37) of Tipparthi in Nalgonda and Bojja Raji Reddy (43) of Dilsukhnagar, who played a crucial role in diverting the PDS commodities.

Bojja Raji Reddy, owner of a private storage along with driver K Venkatesham were taken into custody at Amberpet when they were loading the PDS commodities into the trolley. On searching the premises, huge quantities of rice, dal, sugar, wheat and kerosene oil were found which were stocked illegally, the DCP said.

Simultaneously, another team intercepted a trolley at Mettuguda while transporting PDS rice and arrested the vehicle driver.Investigation revealed that Bojja Raji Reddy has been purchasing PDS commodities from the Fair Price shop dealers in Amberpet area for the past six years and has been selling them to road side eateries and lorry drivers. He was earlier arrested by the Civil Supply Officials.

The DCP said every month Bojja Reddy collects about 200 quintals PDS rice and 30 quintals wheat from the fair price dealers and sells them to Bussa Srinivas. Srinivas collects the PDS commodities from other dealers and sells them to one Varun Agarwal, Managing Director of Shyam Food factory located in Katedan.

“Bussa Srinivas was arrested by Uppal police thrice in similar cases and faced trail in the court, but did not stop the illegal business. Accused Varun has been using the commodities to manufacture flour and other products under his company ‘Harddik Chakki’,” the DCP said.

A total of 362 quintals of rice, 500 quintals of wheat, 630 litres of kerosene, 28 kilograms of dal and 28 kilograms of sugar along with two goods trolleys were seized during the raids. The seized material has been handed over to the Civil Supply department, while the accused has been remanded, the DCP said.
