Karimnagar: Angry over the dereliction of duty by policemen in the Veenavanka gang-rape case, Deputy Inspector-General of Police suspended one sub-inspector and a constable. Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Warangal range, and in-charge Karimnagar, Malla Reddy, issued orders on Tuesday evening for suspending Sub-Inspector Kiran and Constable Parusram.

The decision of suspension was taken based on the report submitted by District Superintendent of Police D Joel Davis. Both SI and constable failed to read the gravity of the situation and failed to conduct a thorough inquiry. They did not act in the case even when the victim informed them.

Speaking to The Hans India, Joel Davis said the incident might have been averted if both of them had reacted immediately. After receiving the call from the victim’s friend, SI alerted the constable but he did not react properly. If he had tried to contact the girl over mobile or visit the place from where the call was made, he could have come to know about the incident, he said.
