Dharur (Mahbubnagar): Twenty six thatched houses were gutted in Garlapadu which belong to the people displaced by the Jurala Project, on Monday.

However, no loss of life occurred. Two fire tenders fought to bring down the flames but in vain. In the project displaced village, 26 families who are yet to get their compensation are living in huts.

The hut dwellers say that they were driven to the streets with fire destroying their habitats completely. Deputy Tahsildar Uday Bhupal attributed the mishap to the paddy field catching fire from electric sparks from the snapped cables and the fire then spreading to the huts.

The cables got snapped in the wee hours on Monday because of strong winds. He said that a report to this extent would be submitted to the State government.
