Hyderabad: Jerusalem Mathaiah, one of the accused persons in the sensational cash-for-vote scam, was arrested by the Chaitanyapuri police on Thursday in a cheating case registered in 2006.

According to sources, a case was booked against Jerusalem Mathaiah for cheating students of Ratnam Hotel Management College by promising to secure them jobs in star hotels and collecting huge amounts of money from a large number students.

A student, named Kiran Kumar, had then lodged a complaint with the police in 2006 against Mathaiah alleging that the accused had collected Rs 10,000 from 30 students on pretext of providing jobs.

The accused, who obtained bail from the Ranga Reddy district court in the case, was absconding and not attending the trials. Despite several summons, Mathaiah was evading the trails. Following the court directions, Mathaiah was arrested by the Chaitanyapuri police on Thursday at Uppal and sent him to judicial remand to Cherlapally Jail, sources said.

It may be recalled that Mathaiah was also allegedly playing a crucial ole in cash-for-vote-scam, in which two TDP MLAs A Revanth Reddy and Sandra Venkata Veeraiah were arrested by the ACB officials.

The MLAs were caught red-handed by the ACB when they offered Rs 50 lakh bribe to Anglo-Indian MLA Elvis Stephenson to vote in favor or a TDP-BJP candidate during MLC elections in Telangana.
