Maharashtra’s ‘Dr Death’ buried six women in his farmhouse

A doctor from Maharashtra’s Satara district who was arrested last week on suspicion of having murdered a woman has confessed to killing five more people — among them four women — between 2003 and 2016, and burying them in his farmhouse, police claimed on Tuesday.

They claimed Wai’s Dr Santosh Pol — dubbed Dr Death — admitted to his crimes while he was being questioned about the murder of a 47-year-old Anganwadi worker, Mangala Jedhe. Police found five bodies —Jedhe's among them — buried in his farmhouse on Monday night, Sandip Patil, Satara Superintendent of Police, said.

Pol was arrested on August 11 on charges of having abducted and murdered Jedhe, president of Maharashtra Purva Prathmik Shikshika Sevika Sangh, on June 16. He will remain in police custody until August 19.

Patil said that illicit relations and greed for gold and money might have prompted the murders.

Pol and his associate, Jyoti Mandre — a nurse believed to be in a relationship with the prime suspect — have been accused of having abducted Jedhe and killing her with a lethal injection.

While investigating Jedhe’s disappearance, police found that she had spoken to Pol before she disappeared and had even threatened to “expose” his crimes. Mandre confessed to the killing.

"Pol confessed to have killed five more people — four women and a man —besides Jedhe, between 2003 and 2016," Patil said.

Police have yet to find the male victim’s body: police suspect he was killed and thrown into a reservoir nearby in 2008.

They are now investigating if Pol’s medical degree was real.
