NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party legislator Rituraj Govind was arrested today for allegedly violating a police order restricting large gatherings in an area in Kirari on the outskirts of Delhi during Chhath Puja celebrations.
Mr Govind and his supporters had been detained last evening after they held protests near a pond in Nithari village for not being allowed to conduct a puja near the pond.
Though a permission to conduct the puja had initially been granted, it was later withdrawn.
A FIR or First Information Report was lodged against Mr Govind today.
As many as 20 AAP MLAs have been arrested since the party came to power in February last year following a colossal victory.
Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister, has accused the centre of gunning for his party lawmakers and "sending Delhiites to jail under false cases".
