​Hyderabad: A six-member gang of dacoits thrashed staff of a fuel retail outlet run by Bharat Petroleum Corporation near Atwelli village under Medchal police station limits in the early hours of Monday and decamped with a booty of Rs 22 lakh.

According to police, the gang also took away the digital video recorder in an apparent bid to wipe out any evidence.

The gang assaulted assistant manager Sanjeeva Reddy and other workers – Ravi Kumar, Balasai, Dhanraj and Sravan Kumar.

Police said the six-member gang arrived at the outlet by a car around 2 am. Sravan was near the fuel vending machine while Sanjeeva Reddy and security guard Dhanraj were sitting in the office room chatting and other two workers went to sleep.

Four persons stepped out of the car and went into the office room wearing masks and wielding knives and fire arms.

The robbers snatched the mobile phones and forced the workers to call their colleague to come into the office room at the point of guns and knives, police said.

The robbers beat up the workers with iron rods and inflicted knife injuries on them when they refused to part with the money and the keys to the cash chest.

At gun point, they forced Sanjeeva Reddy to hand over the cash chest key and robbed Rs 22 lakh kept in it, police said adding that while leaving the place the robbers also took away the digital video recorder so as not to leave behind any clue.

It took about 15 minutes for the employees to come out of fear and then Sanjeeva Reddy woke up truck driver sleeping in his truck in the vicinity and called for police help.

Cyberabad police rushed to the scene of crime and shifted the injured to a private hospital for treatment. The victims told police that the robbers spoke Hindi and Marathi languages.

Cyberabad police commissioner Sandeep Shandilya and other officers visited the scene of crime. Medchal police registered a case and launched investigations.
