Hyderabad: Rachakonda police arrested eight people who cheated advertising agencies in the name of digital marketing. Police seized as many as 4,950 SIM cards from various services providers, 89 cell phones, eight laptops and Rs 50,000 in cash from the accused.

The arrested include M Sandeep, B Murali Krishna, K Ravikanth, B Manoj Kumar, A Surendar Reddy, J Srinivas, M Venu Madhav and K Srisailam all residents of Vanasthalipuram and Ibrahimpatnam.

Police said that the main accused, Sandeep, had agreed with advertisement agencies to carryout digital marketing for some products and services.

Instead of carrying out the campaign by contacting genuine customers, he procured a huge number of pre-activated SIM cards from Murali Krishna and Ravikanth and gave them to the remaining accused with instructions to create a fake database of customers against the pre-activated mobile numbers.

The accused used to answer the calls from the marketing agencies, with which Sandeep had agreements, posing as genuine customers. Thus, Sandeep used to get the money from the marketing agencies, police said.
