The accused engineers were identified as D Prasad, additional divisional engineer of RECS-Parawada and N Suresh, assistant engineer working at Kasimkota. Both the engineers accepted five cheques totalling Rs 6 lakh (5 X Rs1.2 lakh) besides Rs 3 lakh in cash as bribe.
The ACB officials said that the engineers demanded the money from chairman of Samskriti Global Public School, Parawada, P Suryanarayana Reddy for installation of 160 KVA transformer and to provide three-phase power supply in addition to the existing 100 KVA transformer in two-phase power capacity in the public school.
DSP of ACB (Visakha Urban) K Ramakrishna Prasad told reporters that Suryanarayana Reddy approached the accused several times to get three-phase power supply for his school. However, the duo demanded money and kept his application pending.
