Hyderabad: The Malkajgiri police arrested seven accused in a theft case of 950 cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 75 lakh and alsorecovered property worth Rs 73 lakh along with the lorry used for transportation of the stolen liquor.Alcohol cartons from United Spirit Limited Company in Malkajgiri worth Rs 75 lakh were illegally diverted from the godown. The police arrested seven accused Kommaravelli Rakesh (42), T Sammaiah (35), Md Muneer (42), Gandu Sanjeev (43), D Ravi Kumar (39), Chilumula Nagesh (28), Md Majid (28) in the case.
According to Rachakonda police, the three of the main accused were arrested from Godavarikhani, and the remaining four were arrested from Alwal in the city. “Keeping in view of the recently held Gram Panchayath elections they hatched up a plan to commit theft of liquor from a company at Hyderabad and sell it,” said the police officials. On January 18, the accused Sammaiah and Muneer along with lorry reached Nacharam from Godavarikhani. On their way they changed the lorry number to obliterate its identity.
Later Rakesh joined them at Nacharam. Further Rakesh and Sammaiah have purchased two Jio cell phones at Nacharam. They hired driver Majid and utilised his driving license to pass the gate. On the same morning Rakesh called a lorry supplier from Mancherial and requested for work and they received consignment from Associates Roadways, Himayatnagar for transport of liquor from Sha Wallace Company (United Spirits Ltd), Malkajgiri to Mancherial.
