Visakhapatnam: The Education Common Entrance Test (EdCET)-2014 was conducted peacefully in 349 test centres, covering 42 cities, between 11 am and 1 pm across the State on Friday. It registered 89.8 per cent attendance. Of the 166,167 applicants, 149,026 turned up.

The attendance was 87.35 per cent in the Andhra University region, 90.35 per cent in the Sri Venkateswara University region and 90.16 per cent in the Osmania University region. The highest percentage of attendance was recorded in Siddipet, 94.5. For the Urdu-medium candidates, special centres were set up in Kurnool and Hyderabad.

Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Prof G S N Raju, accompanied by EdCET Convener Prof Nimma Venkata Rao, visited many test centres and monitored the test. In the morning, at a meeting in Andhra University, Andhra Pradesh State Higher Education Council chairman Prof L Venugopala Reddy selected the ‘Buddhi’ set code for the test. Prof Raju, council vice-chairman P Vijay Prakash and Prof Venkata Rao attended.

Prof Venugopala Reddy told the meeting that the Andhra University has been conducting the EdCET effectively for three consecutive terms. Prof Raju assured that the AU will discharge its responsibility of conducting any CET effectively, to be endorsed by the Higher Education Council. Prof Venkata Rao said 50,050 seats were available under the convener’s quota in 618 colleges across the State. Efforts were on to release the results on June 23.

Among others, university rector Prof E A Narayana, registrar Prof K Ramamohana Rao, principals Prof Ch V Ramachandra Murty, dean T Koteswara Rao and Messrs G Sudarsana Rao, T V Krishna, S K V Suryanarayana Raju, G Nageswara Rao, V Valli Kumari, P Rajendra Prasad and T Raghava Rao were present at the SET selection.

Meanwhile, EdCET Regional Coordinators Dr T Shoron Raju and Dr Ramulu said 85.78 per cent of attendance was registered in Vizag.
