Hyderabad: Ever since the first ever World Cup Cricket for the Blind was held in Bangalore in 2012, Cricket for the Blind has been gaining momentum in India and worldwide and is now spreading its wings to the United States. The team behind Cricket for the Blind movement is from Samarthanam Trust.

The cricket lovers in India are witnessing the courage and determination of the blind cricketers in the first international bilateral and triangular T20 and ODI matches organised by Cricket Association for the Blind in India. The month-long series of matches between India, England and Sri Lanka had started from October 2. Subu Kota, Founder & CEO of The Boston Group USA and President of Samarthanam Trust USA added joy amongst the blind cricketers by donating 1 million USD to Samarthanam Trust to promote cricket for the blind globally.

Subu Kota said that, “I am happy to contribute for cricket for the blind and its promotion across the world. The donation amount will be transferred to a fund in USA and the proceeds will be used for cricket for the blind. I hope the donation would motivate many other people to also come forward and be inspired to support the noble cause. The bigger task of raising awareness among general public on the need and effect of selfless giving is also being undertaken.

The happiness experienced in selfless giving and for the right cause cannot be put in words. I believe that there cannot be a better cause than seeing fellow human being content. In my seven years of association with Samarthanam, I found that Samarthanam is doing exceptional work. The mission and commitment of Samarthanam to help the disabled, especially the blind has touched my heart and inspired me to do what I could do in my own small capacity.”

“It is just the beginning of a new journey and we hope to see great results. Only time will tell how well we have succeeded. We can spread the same happiness of selfless giving anywhere in the world.” Subu added further.

Ihsan Sameem, President Afghanistan Blind union was also a guest, who had come all the way from Afghanistan to witness few matches and had expressed interest to start working on forming a National Blind Cricket Team in Afghanistan, CABI and WBC had expressed full support for the same to Afghanistan for Blind Cricket. They had committed to have a Team and try to participate in the 2020 World Cup.

Mahantesh G K, Founder Managing Trustee of Samarthanam, President of Cricket Association for the Blind in India and World Blind Cricket said, “It has always been my dream to take cricket for the blind to zenith and I greatly appreciate the support received in accomplishing the mission. I am extremely thankful for the donation received from Mr Subu Kota. His generosity will definitely help Samarthanam and CABI take cricket for the blind to every corner of the world and encourage many blind cricketers. Everyone at Samarthanam and CABI would like to extent heartfelt gratitude for the support. I am sure that this will motivate many more people in India and abroad to join hands with us and contribute for the bigger journey.”

The mission of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled is to empower visually impaired, disabled and underprivileged people through developmental initiatives focusing on educational, social, economic, cultural and technological aspects. Samarthanam envisions to touch at least 100,000 lives by 2020, providing comprehensive solutions to the disabled and underserved communities.
