Indian Accent, the award-winning New Delhi restaurant from Old World Hospitality, opens at its first international location adjacent to Le Parker Meridien Hotel in New York. Founded by restaurateur Rohit Khattar and helmed by celebrated Chef Manish Mehrotra, Indian Accent offers inventive Indian cuisine, combining global ingredients and techniques with authentic Indian flavors.
“We have been evaluating multiple opportunities to open another Indian Accent, but none have been as exciting and promising as New York City. We have just opened and hope that New York too shall embrace our inventive Indian cuisine”, said Rohit Khattar, Chairman, Old World Hospitality.
The contemporary Indian menu showcases Mehrotra’s ability to merge adventorous techniques with traditional flavor profiles. Seasonal, local produce and locally-sourced proteins are complimented by authentic Indian spices and diverse ingredients from across the world - all of which get treated with modern techniques in the hands of Mehrotra’s skilled kitchen team. The menu can be enjoyed as a selection of two, three, or four courses, or a set chef tasting menu of 7 courses. Additional accompaniments and share plates are available a la carte for a supplement.
All of Indian Accent’s dishes are carefully composed plates, but designed for easy, family-style sharing. The menu offers small plates such as Sweet Pickle Ribs with sundried mango and onion seeds, Potato Sphere Chaat with white pea mash, and butter pepper garlic paneer. More substantial second and third courses include Baby Squid with crispy rice and everything chutney, Pepper Roast Dosa with wild mushrooms, black truffles and water chestnuts, and Pork Belly Vindaloo with Goan red rice.
For a sweet finish, the fourth course offers a range of desserts from Mehrotra including Makhan Malai with saffron milk, rose petal jaggery brittle and almonds and Doda Barfi treacle tart with vanilla bean ice cream. Playful share supplements include a Tasting of Papads with wild boar pickle, prawn balchao, and house chutneys.
Indian Accent’s trademark Stuffed Kulchas make an appearance here too and include traditional, favorite stuffings such as Butter Chicken and Saag Paneer as well as Applewood Smoked Bacon and Pastrami with Mustard Butter, as a special salute to New York.
Indian Accent’s wine and beverage program is helmed by Wine & Beverage Director Daniel Beedle, who has created a well-rounded catalog of cocktails, wines, and teas. With an emphasis on fruit forward
Rieslings and light reds, the 300 bottle wine list, will cover all corners of the globe. Beedle, who frequents local Indian spice shops, has developed a number of compelling cocktails that are a play on modern, global classics, incorporating the spices and flavors of India. Cocktails and wines are available a la carte as well as in a curated pairing to accompany the Chef’s Tasting Menu.
With the popularity of non-alcoholic drinks throughout India, Beedle has also created a non-alcoholic pairing to accompany the Chef Tasting Menu along with a larger selection of non-alcoholic beverages.
Designed by BHDM Design under the design supervision of Rashmi Khattar, Indian Accent, is a warm yet sleek restaurant that is both modern and referential. Reimagined materials familiar in Indian architecture, such as brass, marble and plaster, are combined to create a contemporary and clean intimate, are contrasted by the white venetian banquettes and bronze mirrors that run the length of the space. Wanting to incorporate elements of the original Indian Accent, the back dining room is finished with combed pearl-lustered plastered walls, which can also be found at the New Delhi location. At the centerpiece of the room is an 11 foot high hand gold-leafed wall, with a geometric Indian jaali motif.
The front of house team includes Director of Operations, Paul Downie, who previously served as the General Manager of Eleven Madison Park. Alongside Downie is Sarah Stafford, previously Assistant General Manager of Cosme. Currently, Akshay Tripathi, the General Manager– Development for the Group is assisting Khattar in opening the restaurant. Mehrotra’s long term protégé Vivek Rana and a team of chefs from the original Indian Accent shall be assisting Mehrotra in the kitchen.
