BJP set to sweep K’taka, Bihar: Survey

In the biggest ever opinion poll conducted by NDTV.com, the Bharatiya Janata Party is set to sweep the elections in Karnataka and Bihar, besides Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. The AIADMK will sweep the elections in Tamil Nadu while TMC will have a landslide victory in West Bengal.

The following are the results partially telecast opinion poll on Thursday. The results of the remaining States together with the national roundup will be telecast on Friday.

In Karnataka, Bharatiya Janata Party will win 20 seats bagging 44 per cent of votes, actually gaining one seat more than the last time’s tally. Congress would retain all its six seats polling 38 per cent of votes. But the JD (S) would win only two seats foregoing one seat which it had won the last time. Corruption is not an issue in the State.

In Tamil Nadu, AIADMK will win 27 seats adding 18 seats to its tally out of the total number of 39 seats in the State. In the case of alliance with the BJP, the combine will bag 34 seats. DMK will manage to win only 10 seats losing its earlier eight seats. Others will win only one seat. With reference to the prime minister post, 36 per cent favoured Jayalalithaa as the PM, with 33 per cent for Rahul Gandhi and 30 per cent for Modi.

In West Bengal, the Trinmool Congress will win 32 seats by bagging 47 per cent of votes, while the Left will have to content with nine seats by bagging 30 per cent votes and the Congress would bag only one seat with 8 per cent votes. The BJP will get ten per cent votes though it will not win even a single seat. The 43 per cent of the Bengalis preferred Mamta Banerjee as prime minister, while 29 per cent wanted Rahul Gandhi and 28 per cent Modi as PM.

In Rajasthan, BJP will bag 19 seats by securing 48 per cent of votes, while the Congress will win only five seats though it will secure 35 per cent votes. Others will bag one seat. In Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party will win four seats by bagging 34 per cent votes while the BJP will win two seats though it will secure 32 per cent of votes.

Congress will win only one seat with 23 per cent of votes. In case, Assembly elections are conducted simultaneously, the Aam Aadmi Party will win sizable number of seats and form the government.

In Haryana, the BJP in alliance with Haryana Janhit Congress will win 7 seats with 29 per cent votes, while the Congress will win only three seats though it bags 26 per cent votes.

In Maharashtra, the BJP and Sena combine will win 33 seats with 39 per cent of votes, while the Congress and NCP combine will win 12 seats with 35 per cent votes. The MNS will win one seat securing 4 per cent votes.

In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP will sweep 24 seats, while the Congress will win four seats and the BSP one seat.

In Chhattisgarh, the BJP will win nine seats after losing one of its earlier seats by securing 44 per cent votes. The Congress will improve its tally to two seats by securing 38 per cent votes.

In Gujarat, the BJP will win 23 seats by securing 50 per cent votes while the Congress will win only three seats though it secures 40 per cent votes.

In Bihar, The JD (U) will secure only five seats creating a major setback to Nitish who has prime ministerial ambitions. The BJP and LJP combine will sweep 23 seats and the Congress and RJD combine will win 11seats. Others will win one seat.

Who should be the PM?

According the opinion poll, 42 per cent prefer Narendra Modi as the prime minister while 27 per cent opted for Rahul Gandhi. A mere six per cent wanted Kejriwal as PM and five per cent wanted Manmohan Singh to continue as the PM. Four per cent voted for Maya, three per cent for Mamta and three per cent for Jayalalithaa as prime minister.
