Nellore: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Sharmila began her four-day campaign in Nellore district from Atmakur on Monday. She organised a road show at Atmakur on Monday evening. Later, addressing a meeting organised by Nellore MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy and party candidate Mekapati Gowtham Reddy at Panchayat bus stand, she castigated Congress, TDP and former Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. She recalled the various welfare schemes introduced by YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

She alleged that the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi had split Andhra Pradesh only with the aim of making her son Rahul Prime Minister. All Constitutional norms were given the go-by during the bifurcation of the State, she criticised. She reminded the gathering that YSR had introduced several schemes for the farmers, students, women, senior citizens and physically challenged. But after Kiran Kumar Reddy became the Chief Minister, he diluted the schemes, she alleged.

She criticised that Chandrababu Naidu, who was terming Jaganmohan Reddy a ‘psycho’, behaved like one. He had put the farming community to untold hardships by increasing interest rates and electricity tariff.

She also took a dig at the TDP president for favouring bifurcation initially and later showing his sympathy with the people of Seemandhra. The main culprits in bifurcation were Naidu and Kiran, she said. She called upon the people to cast their votes for the YSRCP and teach a lesson to Congress, TDP and Kiran for betraying the six crore people.

Jagan was the only person who had fought for a united Andhra Pradesh, she claimed. She urged the people to vote for the Mekapati family, which had been with her family through thick and thin ever since the death of YSR.

Former Udayagiri MLA Mekapati Chandrasekhar Reddy, former Atmakur MLA Bommireddi Raghavendra Reddy, municipal chairperson candidate Vasupalli Subba Ratnamma, party district convenor Meriga Murali and other leaders and workers accompanied Sharmila during her campaign.
