Not wanting to remain complacent, the Owaisi brothers are addressing the issues and assuring to resolve them. Along with an aggressive advertising campaign, MIM has also begun addressing some real issues on the ground. Old city has been a breeding ground for breach of rules and regulations, be it eve-teasing, rape, molestation, domestic violence, child labour, smuggling of goods, substance abuse, violation of traffic rules etc.
“The root cause of all evils is poverty. And the only way to develop old city is to educate and employ as much as possible”, says Akbaruddin Owaisi on whether the current situation in this part of the city will ever change. According to sources, most parents belonging to the lower income group are unaware of the educational structure their children should be put through. Due to financial crisis, the children are later forced to quit schools and start working. As a result, education remains last in the priority list and this, according to the MLA, should be corrected. He has started working on what he calls as his 'pet project', which aims at building a strong foundation for education and ethics from the preparatory schools level.
Besides the Owaisi School of Excellence where close to 8,000 children are being educated for free, he has been funding the education of 2,000 poor children in private schools. In the past two and a half years, about 4,000 people have been given employment after completing their respective vocational courses.
