The 2014 polls are special as nearly 30 per cent of youth are exercising their franchise for the first time and it’s important to make an informed choice.
The Association for Democratic Reforms, a Delhi-based think tank has come up with an innovative way to inform voters about the leaders they are voting for. All one has to do is either send an SMS, ‘Type MYNETA(Space) Area pin code to 56070 or 9246556070’ or dial *325*35#.
An SMS will be sent with educational background, criminal cases and assets of the incumbent MP and MLA. 10 days before the polls, details of the all the contestants will be sent.
“The very idea is to allow voters to make an informed choice. We access information of the netas from the affidavits filed with the Election Commission then analyse it. A well informed electorate is essential for democracy,” said Prof Jagdeep Chhokar, a member of ADR think tank.
