BJP Leader Arun Jaitley Loses To Amarinder Singh In Amritsar.

Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley, who is believed to be the next Finance Minister in a Government led by Narendra Modi, was defeated in his first popular electoral outing by Congress candidate Amarinder Singh in Amritsar, losing it by nearly 1,65,000 votes.

This is a minor setback to Bharatiya Janata Party even as it succeeds smoothly crossing the half-way mark of 272 in Lok Sabha elections. Even before the counting was over, Jaitley conceded defeat to Singh as he had taken a comfortable lead of our 59,000 cotes.

Singh said, “I had said on the first day Jaitley had nothing to do with Punjab. He is an unknown factor in Amritsar.”

Even though Jaitley did not win the seat, the BJP and its ally SAD is leading in six seats out of the 13 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
Also giving a tough fight in the elections was Aam Admi Party which has won one seat. AAP candidate Bhagwant Mann won the Sangrur seat, defeating SAD’s Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa by 1.4 lakh votes.
