Going on with their demolition drive, the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) authorities have cleared the encroachments on footpath in Balamrai, on Monday. Led by the CEO, Sujatha Gupta, the authorities removed the illegal auto workshops, painting and denting shops. “The encroachments have slowed the traffic and have led to deadlock many a times. We have identified other such areas like, Lal Bazaar, Kharkhana, Trimulgherry, Bowenpally, Picket Main Road and others,” said Sujatha Gupta She stated that the demolitions of the encroachments are being carried out as per the directives given by the AP High Court and the Lokayukta.

On a condition of anonymity, the shop owners said that, they weren’t aware of the title of the land. “We have been running business here for the past 20 years. Some local leaders told us that we could use the land, if we paid them Rs 30,000 per month. We were under the apprehension that this would suffice. Now we have lost both our shops and money.” However, they have said that they would report the name of the leader to the SCB authorities, for misleading them.
In a similar instance of misleading information, it was learnt from a highly placed source that on Friday the SCB authorities identified and demolished an illegal penthouse near Gandhi Ground, Bolarum. Allegedly, a present board member of the board had given the owner a go-ahead for the building. Now the owner has lost his penthouse and had to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
