PM-designate Narendra Modi had lauded the efforts by student leaders for the formation of Telangana. Addressing almost all the rallies he had said that the separate state was possible because of the sacrifice of students, hundreds of whom became martyrs. Here, the roles of OU students were profound. Their agitation and sacrifices became an integral part.
Post declaration of a separate state, many students and student leaders nursed dreams of being a part of ‘Telangana Punarnirmanam’ (development of Telangana). They demanded all the political parties that 10 per cent of the tickets should be given to students, who took part in the T movement and families of the martyrs. However, only six were given tickets by various parties, of whom two have won.
