Three-day playlet competition of Andhra Nataka Kala Samithi concluded at Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College on Tuesday. On the concluding day of the competition, ‘Akhari Uttaram’ and ‘Meghavarnam’ playlets were staged. Ushodaya Kala Niketan of Hyderabad presented ‘Akhari Uttaram’.

The playlet written and directed by Cherukuri Sambasiva Rao focuses on the plight of the old parents who are virtually left to their fate by their NRI children. It won the appreciation of the audience for highlighting a social problem in the era of nuclear family system.

‘Meghavarnam’ playlet was staged by Kandukuri Kala Samithi of Dowleswaram marking the conclusion of the three-day event. Writer G Bhaskara Rao highlights the rampant corruption in society in modern times in the play, laying emphasis on the need to eradicate the evil through social awakening for the economic growth of the nation.

All the actors in the playlet directed by TV Manikumar, did justice to their roles and it bagged the third best production award. Out of the seven playlets staged during the contest, ‘Lifeline’ playlet won the best production, best script and best direction awards. ‘Saikata Shilpam’ playlet was adjudged the second best production.

Best actor and actress, best supporting actor and actress and best stagecraft awards were also presented. KV Balarama Murthy, U Buddhayya Chowdary and Venugopal acted as judges for the playlet competition. Dr Kamineni Pattabhiramaiah, GVDV Prasada Rao, Manepalli Lakshmi Kumari, Dr Konada Ashok Surya and Karnati Lakshmi Narasaiah participated in the valedictory of the event.
