City to get Happy Streets. ‘Happy Street’, a green project of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), has been taken up on Guru Nanak Colony Road in the city on a pilot basis. Under the two crore rupees project, the 1.3 km road up to Autonagar will be beautified.

It will have well-laid footpaths, greenery on road median, avenue plantation, walking and cycling tracks, besides other amenities. Health stall, herbal juice outlet and food court will also be set up. The project aims at create beautiful environs to enable people enjoy a walk or a ride on the Happy Street.

Speaking about the project to The Hans India, Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian said that more roads would be covered under Happy Street in a phase wise manner to develop Vijayawada as a green city. “Widening of the Guru Nanak Colony road has already completed along with laying of a walking track,” he informed.

As part of its initiatives to beautify the city, the VMC has entrusted the task of developing greenery on the median of National Highway 5 from Ramavarappadu Ring to Benz Circle to Nandini Architecture Company.

“Walking and cycling tracks would be laid on the stretch and a mini-park would be developed as part of its ornamentation. The architecture company had already come up with some designs for the beautification project and works would commence soon after finalisation of the project designs,” the VMC Commissioner observed.
