The South Central Railway Mazdoor Union (SCRMU), an affiliate of National Federation of Indian Railwaymen, and Hind Mazdoor Sabha protested at Rail Nilayam on Tuesday against “Retrograde anti-labour and anti-public recommendations made by the Bibek Debroy Committee.”

SCRMU demand the Centre to scrap the report made by the committee. “It appears that the committee has ignored the stellar performance achieved by the Indian Railways from the time of its inception despite huge subsidy burden thrust on it. The Committee in its report restricted the functions of Railway Board in a big way by handing over the same to private players by setting up a Private Independent Regulatory Authority.

The committee’s recommendations such as privatisation of railway stations, freight trains, construction activities etc, are not acceptable to us and to the public in the larger interests,” said Ch Sankara Rao, general secretary, SCRMU. The Indian Railway employees will now go on indefinite strike from November 23 until their issues are resolved.
