Nagole is one of the well developed areas under the GHMC limits. There are more than 25 colonies surrounding Nagole viz. Mamatanagar, Venkata Ramana Colony, Chanukyapuri Colony, Lalithanagar, Co-operative Bank Colony, Arunodaya Colony etc where more than 50,000 people reside.
Nagole is 11 km away from Secunderabad Railway Station and 25 km away from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Some of the landmarks in the area include RTA office, marble stone shops, Bandlaguda and Nagole lakes, Ramalayam temple, Venkateshwara Swamy Temple, Shiva Temple etc.
History
According to locals the name Nagole has been derived from Nagula Cheruvu or Nagula Banda which has been in use since the Nizam’s era. However the lake has vanished where many colonies have come up over it.
G Sharath Reddy, vice president of the joint action committee of Nagole Colonies Welfare Associations, said, “At one of time Musi river water was the main source for agricultural and allied activities in the area. Nagole started developing since 1985 in a phased manner and has become an important hub.
Problems
P Anji Reddy, a resident of Nagole, said, “Though Nagole is well developed it lacks basic amenities such as parks and playgrounds. All the children are forced to play on roads which can turn fatal. An elderly woman died due to an accident four years ago during her morning walk.
There is a 7.7.acre government land in survey no 96 / 1 in Ganeshnagar Colony which was occupied by slum dwellers four years ago. All the colonies association jointly sent a proposal to the government to convert that piece of land into parks and relocate the shanties but nothing has been done till date.”
