Trekking is catching up in the city with more and more youngsters evincing interest in the adventurous sport. Some of them are pursuing it as a hobby as there are several adventurous spots in Vijayawada which is surrounded by hills and forests.

Trekking activity is more seen at hillocks in the vicinity on weekends with a good number of amateurs taking part in it under the guidance of experienced trainers. Middle-aged people are also going for trekking to enjoy the beauty of nature.

The popular trekking destinations include Yerrabalem, Maredumilli, Paritala forest and Mulapadu waterfalls. Noticing the enthusiasm among youngsters, the Vijayawada Trekking Club has been organising trekking expeditions on weekends since its inception in the middle of 2014.

It has already covered several adventurous spots surrounding the city and those in Krishna and Guntur districts, including Kondaveedu Hill. The aim of the club is to highlight the fact that the capital region has much to be explored. It has planned a trekking expedition called ‘Explore the unexplored Mulapadu’ on July 12.

“Normally, the club decides the place of trekking expedition and fixes the date and time schedule. Later, the details of trekking expedition will be posted on its social networking page inviting the adventure lovers to take part in it.

It also makes them aware of risks involved in the trekking expedition and precautions to be taken to ensure their safety,” informed one of the organisers. “The response to its expeditions is good as many youngsters of late want to be a little more adventurous in life to enjoy the thrill,” he added.
