Free screening marks World Hepatitis Day. The Department of Gastroenterology of Andhra Hospitals observed World Hepatitis Day at its premises on Tuesday by organising an awareness programme on the disease. The hospital organised free screening for Hepatitis B and C to mark the occasion.

A free Hepatitis B vaccination camp was also conducted. The free screening and vaccination camp will also be held at the hospital on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, Dr PV Ramana Murthy, managing director of Andhra Hospitals, called for coordinated efforts to curb the high incidence of Hepatitis in the country.
Dr Srinivas Kosuru, consultant medical gastroenterologist, said, The new drugs developed after extensive research have proved to be more effective in curing Hepatitis C with a success rate of 95 per cent. It is always better to focus on prevention of Hepatitis rather than its cure.’’
