Rs 25cr to develop 50 markets in city

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is taking up modernisation of 50 markets in the first phase. 150 markets would be developed, informed the GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar. At present, there are 30 markets in the GHMC jurisdiction. A senior official said that as per a survey, for every 10,000 people there is a need for a market. The population in GHMC area is one crore.

The corporation is planning to take up modernisation of 50 models at a cost of Rs 25 crore for which tenders have been called for. Each market would be developed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh and 400m sq yards is required for each market. Fifty places have been identified for this purpose.

Model markets will be constructed at Ramanthapur, Habsiguda, Mansurabad, Bhupeshgupthanagar, Kranthi nagar, Saroorornagar Huda Complex, Vanasthalipuram, Gaddiannaram and Hayathnagar in East Zone; Esamia Bazar, Azad Market, Vijaynagar Colony, Langurhouse Tank, MJ Market road, Putlibowli Ward Office, Greenlands Junction, Khairtabad, Panjagutta, Sanathnagar, Sairaonagar Basthi in Central Zone; Nalgonda X Roads, Charminar, Saifabad, Shanthinagar,
Rakshapuram, Midhani Bus Stop, Barkas, Jummerath Bazar and Rajendranagar in South Zone; Chinthal, Suraram, Quthbullapur, Subhashnagar, East Marredpally and Sithafalmandi in the North Zone and Kondapur, Rayadurg, Opposite Biodiversity Khajaguda, Gachibowli, Madinaguda, RC Puram, Patancheru, Kukatpally, Prashanthnagar, Kukatatpally MRO Office in the West Zone.
