With an aim to utilise the network of post offices in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for implementing various welfare schemes, Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya held a review meeting on Saturday with Sudhakar, chief post master general, Andhra Pradesh Postal Circle; Muralidhar Rao, chief general manager, BSNL AP Circle and CVD Ram Prasad, director, Software Technology Park of India.

“To issue unique cards for the unorganised sector workers, services of postal department could be utilised. To enhance the performance of employment exchanges, the post offices can work as a mini centers at village level,” Dattatreya said.

Sudhakar informed that on a pilot basis, postal department will work on a project to help farmers in marketing their produce. The postal staff will take photos of the produce and upload it on their websites.

“Customers can access the details and buy directly from the famers. On behalf of the postal department, logistic support will be provided,” he said. Dattatreya assured the officials to highlight these issues to the concerned union ministers.

“The health centers, banks, post offices and cell phone towers should be provided uninterrupted power supply and for this the central government is ready to assist through Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana,” he said.

Dattatreya also condemned Telangana government’s decision to demolish Osmania General Hospital. “The Telangana CM should instead think of reviving the heritage building,” he said.
