History

According to locals, during the 1950s it was a small village surrounded with dense forest, lakes and wells and was dominated with active wild animals. Its name came from the many lakes (cheruvulu) surrounding the area and subsequently, it was known as Cherlapally.

Speaking on the industrial estate, M Gopala Rao, Secretary Cherlapally Industries Association (CIA) said, “Cherlapally Industrial Estate is arguably one of the best Industrial Estates in the state with its combination of successful large, medium and small scale industries set in very clean and green surroundings.”

The entire estate is spread over 1,200 acres and comprises of more than 1000 large, medium and small scale enterprises and ancillary units employing more than 40,000 people both directly and indirectly engaged in manufacturing products in the areas of engineering,

plastics, machinery, agriculture, bore well equipment, forgings, electronics, electrical, packing material, nuclear, defence equipment and pharma.

Bad road from Cherlapally via Rampally lake leading to ORR needs to be relaid with CC or BT road

The estate has bagged the prestigious ‘Green Leaf Award’ (2012-13). The diverse mix of industries are non polluting in nature as the association has taken up the task of building greenery and the environs of the estate adding to its beauty.

The Industrial Estate is maintained by Notified Municipal Service Society, a registered body comprising of industrialists from this estate.

The Cherlapally Industrial Estate has a very modern street lighting system, drinking water schemes, well maintained and wide roads, sign boards, green areas, lined trees adjoining the main roads with an efficient garbage removal and disposal system.

Problems:

Locals expressed concern over increasing number of pot holes on the road connecting Cherlapally to Rampally. There is an urgent need for CC or BT road covering entire 100 ft to ensure smooth movement of traffic.

Since the closure of Moulali Darga Kaman for the past four years, the traffic of the area and Housing Board Colony has been diverted through Ashoknagar, Cherlapally and Kushaiguda leading to heavy congestion and jams. The existing roads need to be widened to take the heavy vehicular traffic load.
