When Mana TV was launched in 2001, in united AP, it created waves among students and teachers alike, with its then innovative recorded and live programmes. Best teachers across the State were taped live teaching various topics and most government high schools were given TVs and were mandated to show the programmes to the students. The channel, which ran successfully for 13 years, was shutdown post bifurcation in Telangana.
However, in view of upcoming examinations, the education department has re-launched the channel on January 18. This time around, the channel has become more interactive, with students posing queries to the teachers through toll free numbers, during the live class.
Speaking to City Tab, S Jagannath Reddy, Director of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) said that the channel will telecast both live and recorded programmes. “We telecast two live programmes, one each for Class X and B Ed aspirants,” he added.
“Earlier the programme used to be recorded at Ambedkar Open University. This year, we have established a separate studio,” informed the Director. Apart from class X tenth and B Ed aspirants, these live and recorded programs are also available for polytechnic students and engineering students.
Teachers are trained for five days to record the programme. All the recorded and live programmes are available in the website, publiclibraries.ap.nic.in. “The main intention to start this live TV program is to help students in whatever way possible,” the director added.
The teaching classes for B Ed aspirants are from 1.45 pm to 2.30 pm everyday and for students from class VI to X, the classes are from 10.10 am to 10.40 am. During the live sessions the students or the candidates can call on the toll free number, 18004254038 to clarify their doubts.
“This program is made mandatory in all the private B Ed colleges. There are power point presentations, animated clippings of the lesson summary, interviews and video clippings in the recorded programmes,” said Tulsidas a professor with SCERT. These classes will continue till March 5 for class VI to X students and till the end of March for B Ed aspirants.
