Do not train a child to learn by force or by being harsh; but direct them to it by what catches their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each-Plato. Following the same motto Sunitha Rao an academician with 26 years experience has been successful in imbibing interest and love for acquiring knowledge in the students’ minds.

Sunitha Rao, started her career in 1990 with TVS Academy, Tumkur and has travelled the less traversed path compared to her counterparts. Commencing as an in-charge for administrative and academic affairs, she grew to the level of principal.

After TVS Academy, she worked with Bharatiya Vidyalaya, Chennai as Principal where Sunitha understood the importance of differentiated learning techniques, which help students understand the hard concepts the easier way. It is in Chennai that Sunitha met K Allamvellu, whose brain-child was Mathlab.

“I worked with K Allamvellu in developing the Mathlab concept. It was a great experience in understanding the important aspects and techniques to teach students”, says Sunitha.

In 2006, Sunitha started working with Delhi Public School as Founder-Head Mistress. After 10 years of inception and DPS is the biggest school with three branches in Mahindra Hills, Nacharam and Nadargul with more than 7500 students.

“Our Director and Chairman have never compromised with the quality and facilities to be provided to our students. We follow international standards not only in teaching but also in facilities,” says Sunitha.

“DPS, Nacharam is spread over eight acres with all the important facilities, which are needed to mould the children into responsible individuals,” she adds. The multi-lingual Sunitha is also a CBSE inspector for schools and a training coordinator for the British Council.

Talking about the DPS, Sunitha points out, “the institution is a platform for opportunities, we have club activities with special coaching for sports, performing arts and academics. I firmly believe that one who develops all-round knowledge have better chances in making a success of their life, Our curriculum has been devised with this very intention”.

Explaining further she says, “At DPS, ‘Socha and Ingriya Nigraha’ is practiced by all the teachers and students. We try to inculcate not just good behaviour but also boost confidence level and life skills in the children.

“Given the agenda we have set for ourselves, we ensure that the teachers are also student-conscious every hour of the day. DPS counsels and orient the faculty in order to make sure that they produce talent that is second to none,” she points out.
