Adilabad: District Collector Buddhaprakash Jyothy inaugurated the Gram Darshini progamme here on Friday to resolve the civic problems like water scarcity and lack of basic amenities facing the people in the district.

Earlier, the officials of various government departments did not take action and remained indifferent although the people made several rounds to the government offices but it is totally different now.

There are 18 mandals in the district and 18 special officers have been appointed for supervising the gram darshini programme. The special officers will hold discussions with the mandal level officers and select a village for showcasing the gram darshini programme.

The special officer will undertake a tour of all the villages with mandal level officers. From 9.30 AM to 2 PM, they would interact with the people to know about the problems that they were facing.

The officials have identified 16 major problems in each village. These problems relate to health, education, power supply, ration shops, sanitation, swachh bharat, toilet constructions, Haritha Haram and many others.

Speaking to the media here on Friday, Joint Collector said that the officials concerned would resolve the civic problems falling under the 16 categories on the spot after getting acquainted with them.

Till now, Gram darshini programme was organized in 54 villages in the district. In the anganwadi centres, if food and milk were being not supplied to the pregnant women and children, the officials were faced under suspension.

Similarly, awareness camps were being conducted on the need to construct toilets in the village selected under gram darshini porgramme.

Officials came to know that teachers were not attending schools in interior villages to take classes and action was being initiated against them. They are providing electricity in Agency Areas.

Speaking to the media, District Planning Officer Keshava Rao said that action would be taken against the negligent officials.

He said that a review meetings were held under the chairmanship of the District Collector on every Monday to take stock of the gram darshini programme in which the District Collector presided.

He said that most of the problems identified during gram darshini relate to non-payment of salaries of MGNERGS workers, road constructions and agriculture.

He said that unlike earlier, the officials were able to tour the remote corners of villages to know about the problems.
