Hyderabad-based photographer, Sreesailam Pasupula has won the prestigious ‘Timothy Allen Travel Scholarship Award’ for his works in travel photography through this he got an opportunity to participate in the ‘Frist Xposure International Photography Festival 2016’, which was held in Sharjah, UAE on October 11-16.
The passionate photographer has won more than 30 international photography awards including ‘Lonely Planet World Award’ in 2010.
Speaking to The Hans India he shared his photographic journey. “I started my career as a wedding videographer in 1997, later I decided to take up photography after watching National Geographic Channel in 1999, where they showcased how their photographers work in the field.
At that time I was inspired by the photographer David Alan Harvey, since then I took up this as a career.
I did a photography course in Chennai in the year 2000 and subsequently, I started my own studio in Hyderabad, where I majorly did wedding photography.
I was bored with the routine work so I shut my shop in 2007 and decided to take up commercial photography. In this pursuit I went to Mumbai to study Craftsman Diploma in Professional Photography and Digital Imaging.
After completion of the course, I travelled many places in India and captured the images of Indian culture, people and places,” Sreesailam shared.
About his selection for Timothy Allen Travel Scholarship Award, he said: “The Scholarship is a platform for budding photographers and it brings them together.
I applied for it by sending a single image of a boy, who was dressed as Lord Krishna and had a cotton candy in his hand. With this image, I won the prestigious Timothy Allen Travel Scholarship Award.”
“It was an amazing time and unforgettable moment in my life for spending time with world famous photographers like Timothy Allen (7 times winner of Travel Photographer of the year), David Alan Harvey, Don McCullin, Tom Stoddard and Erik Almas.
We attended many workshops, seminars and talk shows in the festival. I learned many things from Timothy about the travel photography,” he said.
From the past six years, he is covering the celebrations of colourful festival ‘Holi’ in Mathura and Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh. “Photography is about capturing the language between people and places.
Every budding photographer must do his/her homework before capturing candid shots. To capture great moments, we have to start every day as our first day in the field,” he concluded.
