Rains delay Itikyal mini tank bund works
The officials said Rs 35 lakh has been paid to the contractor, who is executing the works. The contractor has speed up works related to widening the tank bund but failed to make any progress in respect of other works. According to officials, 11,000 cubic feet of silt was removed from the tank. But the tank bund widening works came to a halt because of land acquisition works from Luxettipet.
Luxettipet: The heavy rains in July and August months have suspended the works of developing Itikyal tank as a mini-tank bund with Rs 1.5 crore.Major Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao launched the works in May last year during the Mission Kakatiya. The State government had released funds for widening works of tank bund, desilting works, construction of culverts and others. Tenders were finalised but only 45 per cent of works were completed so far due to rains.
The officials said Rs 35 lakh has been paid to the contractor, who is executing the works. The contractor has speed up works related to widening the tank bund but failed to make any progress in respect of other works. According to officials, 11,000 cubic feet of silt was removed from the tank. But the tank bund widening works came to a halt because of land acquisition works from Luxettipet.
The locals criticised the officials for not supervising the execution of works by the contractor, who is required to do cement lining works to prevent damage to the bund due to rain. He also has to install electric lights on the tank bund and arrange cement benches.Construction of Bathukamma ghats on the tank bund was also delayed as the water level in the tank was increased.However, Irrigation Department Assistant Engineer Gautam said the tank bund development works would completed by the next rainy season.
