Khammam: The activists of Communist Party of India (CPI) city unit staged a protest against the hike in petrol and diesel prices, and burnt an effigy of the Central government here at Dorapalli Petrol Bunk in Khammam on Monday. The activists strongly criticised the Centre’s move of repeatedly increasing the prices of petrol and diesel.

Speaking on the occasion, party’s city unit secretary S K Janimiya said after Narendra Modi took charge as a Prime Minister, several times the prices of petrol and diesel were enhanced which was giving a tough time to middleclass and poor in the country.

“Before going to elections, Narendra Modi promised that he would stand by the side of the poor and middleclass and solve all their problems. But now, by encouraging the corporate companies, he is deceiving the innocent people of the country,” he criticised.

“Without keeping check on the petrol and diesel charges, how he can work for the welfare of the people?” he questioned.

He demanded the government to withdraw the decision of hike of petrol and diesel charges immediately and help the people. Mohammad Salaam, Yanali Sambashiva Reddy, Mekala Pullaiah, Md Rehaman, S K Chana, S K Qadar Pasha and Boda Veeranna were present along with others.
