Nizamabad: A large number of Youth Congress members took out a huge rally in the town on Wednesday protesting against the failure of the NDA government for not answering the five questions posed by Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi on the impact of demonetization.

They also demanded the lifting of curbs on the withdrawals on ATMs and Savings Bank account numbers.

Speaking to the media, Congress (Nizamabad Urban) in-charge Mahesh Kumar Goud said that the demonetisation of high currency notes of Rs 500 and TRs 1,000 was a thoughtless decision which caused lot of hardships to the poor, the rural populace and the small traders.

While traders incurred losses as they could not get small change, farmers could not be paid as hard currency was not available and most of them do not have savings bank accounts. They were not ready for digital transactions yet, he added.

Goud said that if there were curbs on withdrawing money from their accounts, the account holders should be paid 18 per cent interest. If digital transactions were continued, banks should not impose any charges for using ATMs, he added.

Goud said that the Civil Supplies Department should supply the rationed commodities at half the price as people were suffering due to demonetisation.

Speaking on the occasion, State Youth Congress leader Bhargav Deshpande said that Rahul Gandhi’s five questions remained unanswered.

He said that it was unfortunate that the Central government was unable to provide answers to Rahul Gandhi’s questions as to how much of black money that was recovered after November 8 and how many people lost their jobs and how many of them died while standing in the queues at the banks.

The other two questions were how much financial loss the country suffered due to demonetisation and whether the Centre took any precautionary steps to implement the decision smoothly by taking the opinion of economists and financial experts.

They took out a rally till the Collectorate and submitted a memorandum to the Joint Collector A Ravinder Reddy. Later, they burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the NTR Chowrasta.

MLC Akula Lalitha, DCC president Taher-bin Dan and others were present.
