Warangal: The district administration has embarked upon an innovative programme called ‘Vruksha Darshan’ (Green Day) for the protection of saplings planted under Haritha Haram programme.

District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil and District Conservator of Forests MJ Akbar launched the programme at Nadikuda in Parkal mandal in the district on Friday, where the forest department has planted nearly 1,200 saplings on either side of a road between Puligilla to Nadikuda.

The collector has watered several plants highlighting the importance of the programme.Speaking on the occasion, he informed that as part of the programme it was planned organise ‘Green Day’ on every Friday across the district to water the saplings to ensure their survival during the summer season. Every sapling that was planted under Haritha Haram should be protected.

Youth organisations, local legislators, retired employees, NGOs, educational institutions and senior citizens would be involved. ‘The programme is voluntary in nature and all those concerned should take part in the programme actively to protect the plants,’ the Collector said.

The personnel and officials at government offices and government institutions should water the plants. At schools, the teachers should ask the students to adopt one plant each, water them and protect them so that they could understand the significance of environmental protection.

Prashanth Patil has suggested that every Friday the plants should be watered from 8 am to 12 noon. The resources locally available should be made use of for the purpose. At village-level, gram panchayat secretary would as nodal secretary for the programme.

The Conservator of Forests, Akbar noted that the forest cover in Warangal Rural district was less and steps should be taken to increase the forest cover by planting and protecting large number of saplings.

The collector has on Thursday held a review meeting with the district officials to discuss arrangements for the programme and asked them to take measures for its success. Anganwadi workers, Sakshara Bharat coordinators, Joint Collector M Haritha and others were present.

1.08 crore saplings to be planted in next Haritha Haram

Later on the day, Collector Prashanth Patil along with Conservator of Forests Akbar and Joint Collector Haritha has visited a forest nursery at Madaram village near Parkal.

Speaking to press presspersons on the occasion, he informed that it was planned to plant 1.08 crore saplings in the district during the next Haritha Haram programme.

He said nearly 1.26 crore saplings were being grown at 69 nurseries located at different places on the district.
