Every citizen has the right to protest in democratic country like India. It is the right the Indian Constitution has provided its citizens but but the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, is trying to kill that right by giving orders to remove the dharna chowk,” alleged leaders of Opposition parties.
Khammam: “Every citizen has the right to protest in democratic country like India. It is the right the Indian Constitution has provided its citizens but but the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, is trying to kill that right by giving orders to remove the dharna chowk,” alleged leaders of Opposition parties.
The leaders of Opposition parties - Left parties, Congress and TDP – gave a memorandum to the District Collector, D S Lokesh Kumar, requesting him to convey their demand of continuing the dharna chowk in Hyderabad to the Chief Minister.
They also sought withdrawal of the decision of removing dharna chowk along with withdrawing the cases that were lodged on the poor and innocent farmers after the clash that took place in Khammam agricultural market.
Speaking on the occasion, Communist Party of India (CPI) district secretary Bagam Hemanth Rao said that the people in Telangana State were vexed with the behaviour of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his hollow promises made to the people. Using his political power, KCR was trying to suppress the Opposition parties.
Every political party has right to protest and tell its views and express its opinion. If KCR does not change his behaviour and follow the democratic rules, the people would teach him a fitting lesson in the next elections, he warned.
TDP Sattupalli MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah alleged that it was the traders, who attacked the office of the Market Committee Chairman in the guise of farmers but the police officials arrested innocent farmers for the market clash that occurred on April 28.
‘Cases must be lodged after seeing the CCTV footages but the ruling party leaders, without seeing the footages, using their political power lodged cases on farmers and the police officials arrested farmers and sent them to the jail,’ he criticised.
Communist Party of India –Marxist (CPM) district secretary Ponnam Venkateshwar Rao demanded the government investigate the market clash with a sitting judge to find out the facts. He also demanded the government withdrawal of cases lodged against tribal farmers and release them immediately unconditionally.
Congress district president Aiyatam Satyam alleged that the TRS government, which boasts itself as farmer-friendly, lodging false cases against them and sending them to jail. He criticised that the TRS leaders are killing democracy.
If the government does not release the farmers unconditionally, the leaders of all political parties will intensify agitation across the State along with the farmers and with the representatives of various people organisations to teach a fitting lesson to TRS government, he warned.
TDP district president Tulluri Bhrahmaiah, CPI leader Potu Prasad, CPIML-ND leader M Srinivas, A Ashok, M Nageshwar Rao, Congress leader Javed were also present along with others.
